Nedbank Phase II
The Nedbank corporate office in Sandton, the first GBCSA Green Star–certified building in South Africa, achieved a 4-star Design rating in 2009 and a 4-star As-Built rating in 2010. Phase II completes the campus with seven floors of office space above two levels of retail, organized as two H-shaped blocks around a central atrium that opens onto a park, integrating the building with the cityscape and pedestrian realm. The multi-volume atrium functions as the building’s internal “street,” supporting circulation, meetings, and gatherings, while material choices and detailing continue the timeless language of Phase I. Sustainable features include an efficient HVAC system, water-saving fittings, DALI lighting with sensors, low-VOC finishes, rainwater harvesting, and plans for blackwater treatment. Maximized natural light, views, and amenities such as gardens, restaurants, and cyclist facilities enhance productivity and well-being. Phase II also won the SAPOA Overall Green Award 2011, marking multiple national firsts in sustainable office design and construction.
