Anvil Road
Ingrain’s fully refurbished 10,000 m² head office in Isando, Johannesburg, transforms a brutalist concrete building into a modern, flexible workspace that reflects the company’s industrial innovation. The design preserves the original geometry while softening it with a textured tiled façade, a striking aluminium-finned entrance, and open, collaborative interiors featuring exposed concrete, timber slats, integrated planting, and acoustic treatments. Workspaces include open-plan areas, cellular offices, wellness zones, and collaborative hubs, all maximising natural light and cross-departmental interaction. A central feature is the adjacent two-storey laboratory, reconfigured into a double-volume, daylight-filled space with automated blinds, exposed services, and linear LED lighting, visible from circulation areas. Serving both technical and representational roles, the lab showcases Ingrain’s R&D processes, making innovation and scientific work an accessible, integral part of the company’s identity.
