About

Grosskopff Lombart Huyberechts & Associates Architects is a Johannesburg-based architecture and design practice working across South Africa and internationally. Established in 1945, the studio is one of the country’s longest-running firms in continuous practice. Today, a young and dynamic team continues this legacy — delivering architecture defined by design integrity, precision, and enduring quality. With a team of 20, the practice combines the agility of a studio with the capacity of a larger firm, ensuring each project receives focused attention from concept through to completion. Driven by a deep commitment to architecture and place-making, the firm creates innovative, timeless buildings that add lasting value to their context.

Lines Through Time | 1945 - 2025

2025 marks the eightieth anniversary of GLH Architects, a Johannesburg-based architectural firm whose longevity and enduring legacy place it amongst a handful of firms in the South African context to have survived the vicissitudes of shifting political regimes, economic downturns, urban transformation and profound societal shifts. Over the course of eighty years GLH has established itself as one of the foremost South African architectural firms, each decade being characterised by a number of landmark buildings and projects that serve as important markers of the social, cultural and political contexts in which they were produced.

The arts

We believe architecture and art are inseparable. Collaboration with some of South Africa’s leading artists is central to our practice, embedding art within architecture in meaningful and lasting ways. Through our continued support of the SAFFCA residency, we invest in emerging local talent and cultivate an ongoing dialogue between art, space and community.
