The Park Inn Hotel is strategically located on a busy arterial, close to the M1 motorway in Sandton. It is a medium-sized urban hotel appealing to both business and tourist markets. The clean lines of the bold modern design complement the brand’s image, ensuring the hotel’s visibility in a competitive industry.
The hotel is arranged in an L-shape creating a firm edge to the public street with the entrance and surface parking nestled behind. 273 hotel rooms and associated support facilities are arranged in seven floors over a single basement parking level. The multi-volume entrance is in the knuckle of the L, and the reception, bar, and business lounge are the node of the hotel. View lifts operate from the foyer, giving guests a panorama over Sandton as they travel up to their rooms.
Across the porte cochère from the entrance, a conference centre and meeting room area offers subdivisible function space. Other hotel amenities include the fitness centre, restaurant, and pool deck. Attention is given to the interior-exterior flow in the public areas of the hotel, where the dining and bar spaces connect seamlessly with the pool terrace. All internal walls were built with dry-wall partitioning systems to save time and costs, and allow future flexibility.
The exterior aesthetic is clean and effective, with modern detailing realised in concrete and muted earthy self-coloured plaster hues used in combination with dramatic gestures of red render and charcoal stone cladding. The majority of hotel room windows are simple punch-outs, with the suites given dramatic floor to ceiling curved glazing.
Several sustainable initiatives were incorporated to reduce running costs, including an efficient hot water heating system, generous insulation, and an integrated energy saving system linked to the electronic room keys.
