House Grosskopff is situated on an exposed portion of the Westcliff Ridge, forming part of the Le Val and La Roche development on the corner of The Valley Road and Jan Smuts Avenue. Central to the design motivation was the site’s setting on the ridge, defined by the exposed rock, the trees and spectacular views. The resultant design is a simple two-bedroomed home, a large part of which is open plan enabling a casual flexible lifestyle.

The house opens onto the kopje and exterior rooms complement the interior spaces including a pool hewn into the rock, creating an integration of building and site. The house and garden are an ideal sanctuary where the owner can write and create art. The architectural language follows a timeless approach approved by the local Residents’ Association, and the finishes choice uses a neutral palette with a predominance of natural materials.
